Universal pictures
Universal Studios
Inc. is an American motion picture studio, owned
by Comcast through its wholly owned subsidiary NBC
Universal, and is one of the six major movie studios. Its
production studios are at 100 Universal City Plaza Drive in Universal
City, California. Distribution and other corporate offices are in New York
City.
Founded in 1912 by Carl
Laemmle, Mark Dintenfass, Charles O. Baumann, Adam Kessel, Pat
Powers, William Swanson, David Horsley, and Jules Brulatour, it is
the second oldest movie studio in the United States of America (beaten one month
by Paramount Pictures, which was founded on May 8, 1912). In addition to owning a sizable
film library spanning the earliest decades of cinema to more contemporary
works, it also owns a sizable collection of TV shows through its
subsidiary NBC Universal Television Distribution. It also acquired rights to
several prominent filmmakers' works originally released by other studios
through its subsidiaries over the years.

This information obtained from Wikipedia has allowed me to consider which distributor i am going to use.

Difference between an Art house movie and Mainstream blockbuster film
An art film is typically a
serious, independent film targeted towards a specific market rather than a mass market .An art film is
"intended to be a serious artistic work, often experimental and not
designed for mass appeal". They are made more for the love of making a
movie than for commercial profit.
Art film producers usually
present their films at specialty theatres and film
festivals. Art films are aimed at small audiences, which means they
can rarely get the financial backing that will permit large production budgets,
expensive special effects, costly celebrity actors, or
huge advertising campaigns, as are used in widely released mainstream films.
Furthermore, a certain degree of
experience and knowledge are required to understand or appreciate such
films,This contrasts sharply with mainstream "blockbuster" films,
which are geared more towards escapism and pure entertainment. For
promotion, art films rely on the publicity generated from film critics'
reviews, discussion of their film by arts columnists, commentators
and bloggers, and "word-of-mouth" promotion by audience members.
Since art films have small initial investment costs, they only need to appeal to a small portion of
the mainstream viewing
audiences to become financially viable.
From this information that i obtained
from Wikipedia i have decided that my film was to be an Art Film , allowing for a small amount of
people to appreciate the different aspects of my film.
My Distributor- Lions Gate Entertainment and why
The reason as to why I
decided upon Lionsgate entertainment was not because they have
distributed many films of the action/thriller genre which my film belongs to,
but due to the success of American Physco which brought about a trend
of producing and distributing films far too controversial for the major
American studios.
